Select & Better Clear: a uniform color match face... with little color changes.
Select Mill Run: more color variations and color character in the treads face.
The grade of stair treads that you prefer to buy is usually based on which matches your flooring best.
Standard Stair Treads Size:
1-1/16" thick ( thicker treads can be done ) x 10-1/2" wide ( wider treads can be done ) x 36" to 72" Long ( longer treads can be done ).

Our Stair Tread Spec's:
Our treads are made from 4-7 pieces of solid hardwood lumber, edge glued together. You can get stair treads with a color matched face or a more color character face, based on the grade you prefer. Both our select & better and mill run grade stair treads are made of 100% solid hardwood lumber; manufactured to exceed industry strength standards ( not veneer top / not press wood core ). Note: select mill run stair treads are $2.00 less expensive than select & better stair treads ( our website only shows select & better tread pricing ).
Busting The Stair Tread Myth:
Many consumers are under false assumptions that a stair tread made from 4-7 pieces of hardwood lumber is not as good as a stair tread made of one solid piece of lumber... this is very, very far from the truth. A stair tread made from only 1-2 pcs. of hardwood lumber has very little strength and/or structural integrity against cupping or warping and fails to meet industry standards. Thus, we will not stock one piece stair treads and we don't manufacture them! |
